I occasionally take on consulting projects that fit with my interests in bridging the gap between linguistics and the public, including both academic linguistic grants trying to reach a broader audience and companies trying to better articulate their language-related products. A few examples:

  • I’m a member of the Advisory Board of Planet Word, a new museum about language opening up in Washington, DC in late 2019.
  • I consulted on the public outreach component for the Scots Syntactic Atlas grant, including a day-long intensive strategy session on how to bring the map to local and national media attention once it is complete.
  • I worked with the smartphone keyboard app SwiftKey on figuring out interesting patterns from their massive emoji data collection, which became this talk at South by Southwest.

Other consulting work I can’t share online, but I’m happy to chat about your linguistic project if you think someone with my skills would be a good fit.
